This showcases kdFlex's explicit apparent mass formulation. Apparent mass dynamics arise from non-circulatory flow that leads to acceleration dependent forces and moments on the body (e.g., parachute and submersible) dynamics. kdFlex uses a novel implementation that allows the use of an explicit formulation for including these forces when solving the equations of motion. This video shows two parachute drop tests with different apparent mass coefficients. The apparent mass coefficients affect the parachute and capsule dynamics during descent.
